Katahdin Rams
Rambo (top, right) was our original foundation ram.  Bred by Doug
& Laura Fortmeyer, he was heavy in the rump and shoulders, tall
and produced many litters of excellent lambs.

We replaced Rambo with Dakota (second, right) purchased at the
Sedalia, Mo. ram auction in June 2004.  Dakota was bred by the
North Dakota State University sheep unit and has all the hall marks
of being a healthy, prolific successor to Rambo.  Dakota was
featured on the back cover of the 2005 Sedalia Ram Sale by the
picture below.

We went back to the Sedalia Ram Sale in 2005 and purchased
Dalton, a tall white coated ram that has lots of promise.  He is
pictured at the bottom right.

Choosing a ram lamb for sale as a breeder has a number of
considerations.  First the mother must be registered and have
produced either two or three lambs -- singletons are rejected even
from yearling ewes.  We let the lambs mature to see if they have
the conformation and body condition we are looking for.  Small
size, inadequate shoulders or butts and scurs or horns put them on
the wether list.  Rams that look good are genotype tested.  We
save only ‘RR’ and  ‘RQ’ lambs for future breeding.

Dakota
We had a total of three
ram lambs that were
saved for possible
breeding use.  Interested
breeders may want to
send an inquiry for specific
information, pricing and to
arrange delivery.
Dalton
The three lambs to the left are from the spring crop.  Dakota is their
common sire.  One lamb was a twin, the other two are from triplet
lambings.  All three ewes were three + years old, in good health and
raised their lambs without difficulty.
