The books, magazines, and information referenced on this page are of specific interest to sheep breeders and
producers.

Sheep Production Handbook, 2002 Ed., Vol. 7, The American Sheep Industry Association, Inc.  This is a great,
broad-spectrum text with information about all aspects of sheep industry.  While it may not give the detail about
every topic that you might want, it combines business, management, and production information in one handy,
useful reference.  It is a valuable reference for all sheep producers.

Manual of Sheep Diseases, 2nd Ed., J.C. Hindson & Agnes C. Winter.  Blackwel Publishing. 2002.
This is a British text that does a very nice job discussing the many health problems of sheep in a format based
on the signs of illness (eg. abortion, diarrhea, lameness, etc.) so you don't have to know the disease to look up
information on it, you just have to know what problems you are having to find useful diagnostic and treatment
information.  It is readable for a lay person and still useful for a veterinarian as well.  This is another great book
and reasonably priced.  It is available at several locations including Iowa State Press
(
www.blackwellprofessional.com) or from Amazon.com (www.Amazon.com).

Livestock Protection Dogs, Selection, Care and Training, 2nd Ed..  Orysia Dawydiak and David Sims.  2004.
Orysia got her first Akbash about the same time I got my first kelpie and she and David have put their years of
experience with livestock guardian dogs into a valuable "how to" book for anyone interested in adding a
protection dog to their farm or home.  The second addition provides even more selection and training
information than the first, and is the "bible" for working with the guardian breeds.  This volume is also widely
available at...
