We are a small farm in North East Kansas (25 miles ne of Topeka) that trains sheep dogs as a hobby and works at
improving the sheep breed of choice, Katahdins. Richard and Rosalie have 4 Kelpies (Jake, Mac and Tessa plus a
new puppy Gem), 1 Border Collie (Ben), 2 Akbash Dogs (Hayli & Kagan), 4 barn cats and 60 - 120 sheep (depending
on lamb count).
Richard is a retired consulting statistician that is mostly just tired these days (always seems to be something that
needs doing on a farm).
Rosalie is a veterinarian and a nutritional consultant for Hill's Pet Nutrition, Inc. in Topeka.
Between the two of us we are working towards a perfect herd of healthy, happy Katahdin sheep. It's good to
have goals! Our original stock came from Doug & Laura Fortmeyer in Fairview, Kansas. They have a wonderful herd
and are at the forefront of breed improvement. Rams were acquired from various locations in the hope that we
could produce lambs with the hardiness and conformation we wanted.
We acquired rams from the North Dakota State U. breeding program via the Sedalia, MO 2005 ram sale and the
Mountain View Farms of Tennessee. We have been very impressed with the size, conformation and docility of
these guys and hope to continue using their breeding stock for the forseeable future.
